Transportation of dangerous goods by air, storage and transshipment must comply with international standards for packaging and marking. In general, there are three main groups of packaging, depending on the degree of danger of a particular cargo:

Packing group I: substances presenting high danger, for goods with hazard classes from 1 to 4;

Packing group II: substances presenting medium danger for packaging is for substances of classes 5 to 7;

Packing group III: substances presenting low danger for substances and materials in hazard classes 7 to 9.
This group of requirements determines the degree of strength, insulation properties, dimensions of packaging and containers in which dangerous goods are transported. With regard to the marking of Dangerous Goods, when only air transport of dangerous goods is used, all technical standards and conditions for its application are contained in Part 2 of the ICAO "Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air".
According to these requirements, cargo of each hazard class is assigned its own colour marking and distinctive symbols that allow unambiguously interpreting the degree of hazard of the transported cargo.
As air transportation becomes more fully integrated into the overall logistics model, such as multimodal types of transportation, the requirements for the transportation of dangerous goods will be unified as well.
